Workshop Information

Course Outline

Beasts of the Air!

Design, make and operate your own flying marionette!

Successful applicants will receive their own puppet making kit in the post. Your kit will contain a puppet skeleton and pre-fabricated puppet control, sculpting materials and tools, paint, brushes and string. You will learn puppet design, sculpting and painting techniques, create your own unique creature and learn how to bring it to life.

Each day we will focus on a different element of puppet making:

  • Day 1 – Puppet design and maquette making
  • Day 2 – Sculpting and painting
  • Day 3 – Stringing and operating

This online workshop will be led by puppeteer and Creative Dimension Trust tutor Siân Kidd, and is suitable for beginners – although the kit is adaptable to suit your confidence level. This course would suit students who wish to learn the process of designing, making and operating a marionette or string puppet.

Timings

Students must report for group teaching at 10am. Following the first session, students will go offline to create their own work. The afternoon session will include private one-to-one sessions, a show and tell, and a briefing for the following day.
