2020: Weaving – Online

Workshop Information

Course outline

In this course, students will be introduced to weaving using a weaving frame with yarns and recycled materials. During the week, you will be taught a variety of processes including dyeing.

Successful applicants will receive a kit of materials for this workshop.

 

This workshop series will be taught by London based, award winning weaver Claire Whelan. Claire has studied constructed textile design in London and, alongside her weaving activities, also works at The Cass School of Art, Architecture & Design teaching constructed textiles.
Claire has been awarded the Clothworkers Foundation Award 2017/2018 in conjunction with Cockpit Arts and moved to the Deptford studios in July 2017.

 

Timings

Students must report for group teaching at 10am for a 30 minute tutorial. Following the first session, students will go offline to create their own work. The afternoon session will include private one-to-one sessions, a show and tell, and a briefing for the following day.

TCDT workshops give a chance to develop a range of transferable skills and valuable insight to possible career paths. Some of the career choices our alumni have pursued include; Architecture, Engineering, Fine Art, Jewellery Making, Art Conservation, Glass Working, Theatre Design, Fashion Design, Costume Design – the list is growing!

 

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible to apply you will need to be 14 – 19 years old during the dates of the workshop.

You should be creative and have good hand-eye co-ordination. In your application you should demonstrate a passion for working with your hands.

You must be able to attend every day of the workshop.

Course Funding

Our workshops are fully-funded by generous sponsors.  Places are limited, therefore, we recommend you submit your application as early as possible.

 

There are only 8 spaces available on this workshop. If the workshop becomes oversubscribed, we will close the application process early.
