Course Outline

The Barkcloth workshops provide a unique opportunity to work with José Hendo, an Eco-Sustainable, Circular Fashion designer and artist who is a recognised world expert on barkcloth. You will be working with this ancient sustainable non-woven cloth. You will have the opportunity to design your own accessories and have expert guidance throughout the workshops to make your inspiration become a reality

This workshop will be run by Creative Dimension Trust Tutor, Jose Hendo. Jose is a Ugandan-born British eco-sustainable designer who takes a fresh approach to fashion design, challenging the throwaway culture. Founder of the José Hendo brand, Bark To The Roots (B2TR) initiative and the R^3 Campaign, Jose Hendo has won multiple awards. She promotes the use of organic, eco- textiles and recycled materials to create unique – often avant-garde -garments, and accessories for both women and men. She supports ethical values and the environment.

 

Timings

Students must report for group teaching at 10am. Classes will finish at approximately 4:30pm.

 

Transferable Skills and Future Careers

TCDT workshops give a chance to develop a range of transferable skills and valuable insight to possible career paths. Some of the career choices our alumni have pursued include; Architecture, Engineering, Fine Art, Jewellery Making, Art Conservation, Glass Working, Theatre Design, Fashion Design, Costume Design – the list is growing!

 

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible to apply you will need to be 14 – 19 years old during the dates of the workshop.

You should be creative and have good hand-eye co-ordination. In your application you should demonstrate a passion for working with your hands.

You must be able to attend every day of the workshop.

Course Funding

Our workshops are fully-funded by generous sponsors.  Places are limited, therefore, we recommend you submit your application as early as possible.

There are only 10 places available on this workshop. If the workshop becomes oversubscribed, we will close the application process early.
