Workshop Information

Course outline

In this 5 day course you will learn how to operate a table top 4 shaft loom.

You will be guided through the process of selecting appropriate materials, based on your own artwork or an image of your choosing. After being introduced to ancient and traditional weaving structures, you will experiment and practice weaving your own cloth on the looms.

At the end of this 5 day course you will have a selection of woven samples that you have designed and made yourself alongside a knowledge of how cloth is woven and has been woven for centuries.

This course would suit anyone with an interest in textiles, art or practical crafts. You do not need any previous experience, although you are welcome to join if you do have some.

This workshop will be taught by London based, award winning weaver Claire Whelan. Claire has studied constructed textile design in London and, alongside her weaving activities, also works at The Cass School of Art, Architecture & Design teaching constructed textiles.
Claire has been awarded the Clothworkers Foundation Award 2017/2018 in conjunction with Cockpit Arts and moved to the Deptford studios in July 2017.
