Venue: Dulwich College, London

Dates: This workshop ran for three days from Tuesday 9th August 2022 until Thursday 11th August 2022.

Workshop Information

Course Outline

During this week-long course, you will be designing and decorating your own set of bespoke wall tiles and using your new skills to work collaboratively to create a tile panel to be included in a window display at Fortnum & Mason. Over the three days you will learn the traditional process of tubelining (popular during the Art Nouveau period), as well discovering how we replicate unique coloured glazes and designs for restoration projects, such as The Food Halls at Harrods and many of Transport for London’s underground stations.

This workshop will be run by Craven Dunnill Jackfield Ltd, an award-winning tile manufacturer and the UK’s leading manufacturer of traditionally-styled decorative ceramic tiles.

Who are Craven Dunnill Jackfield Ltd?
Craven Dunnill & Co was established in 1872 with the aim of creating high quality encaustic and decorative tiles and specialist ceramics, for both the national and international market. Our original factory was one of the first ever to be built to allow the buildings to work as a ‘production line’, the site was able to bring in basic raw materials at one end and send out incredibly fine ceramics at the other. A skill we still pride ourselves on today. Working from that same factory (also the home of The Jackfield Tile Museum in the historic Ironbridge Gorge), Craven Dunnill Jackfield Ltd make hand crafted tiles, still using predominantly traditional processes. We work on both restoration and new build projects, from a single tile to large scale developments. Our skills are illustrated in the many high-profile restoration projects we have been involved in such as Kew Gardens, Leeds Library and The Palace of Westminster.
