Workshop Information

Course Outline

You will learn mural painting techniques suitable for decorating interiors.

We will use acrylic paints, acrylic glaze and specialist brushes to paint an A3 panel.

We will provide images to work from. The images will be of architectural features (such as carved stone animals and foliage). You will learn how to paint realistic shadows and how to mix different tones to create ‘trompe l’oeil’ effects (this is when the painter tricks the viewer into thinking that what they are looking at is actually a 3D object, rather than a flat painting).

We will discuss the practicalities of working on a large scale.

As well as painting techniques, you will learn how to enlarge designs by squaring up, how to transfer a design to the wall and how to prime and prepare walls for mural painting.
