Ellie Harrison

I am currently on an Art Foundation course at City & Guilds of London Art School, and am hoping to go on to a Fine Art degree next year. I have always been interested in technical hand skills, and how I can use different crafts and processes to make unique artworks.

My first workshop [with The Creative Dimension Trust] was From Dream to Product at the fabrication company Zone Creations. I enjoyed meeting other teenagers and spending time with people with all sorts of different skills, from woodworking to CAD. Since then, I have been lucky enough to attend courses in Trompe L’oeil, Eggshell Inlay, Penwork, Gilding on Textiles, Weaving, Sugarpaste flowers and Calligraphy, each time not knowing anything about the area, but being introduced to a new world of creativity. The courses have definitely helped me build up my portfolio and confidence for art school. I have learnt so much from the excellent teachers and other students, about the practice and time it takes to develop a craft, and the patience and resilience you need to succeed. The Creative Dimension Trust has helped me step out my comfort zone and have new rewarding experiences. By meeting professionals and creative practitioners I have learnt about industry and career possibilities, giving me much more confidence for the future, that I can do something interesting that I enjoy and still support myself.
