Leather Making | Bill Amberg Studio

London, Thursday 15th February 2024

Students joined world-renowned designer and craftsman, Bill Amberg, for an afternoon. Bill shared his extensive knowledge on the history and sustainability of leather used in the creation of bespoke leather products, interiors and furniture.

Fabrication | Zone Creations Ltd

London, Saturday 28th October 2023

In this one day introduction to fabrication, students were given a tour of the Zone Creations site and were able to get an insight into some of their current live projects. In the laser department, students were introduced to CAD and how this translates to machines and the different laser cutting jigs used for acrylic and timber.

In the afternoon session, students were given the opportunity to make a pair of professional coasters, dishes, or candle holders for their home or as a delightful bespoke gift. Participants learned about the opportunities afforded by Jesmonite AC100, a water-based eco-resin that’s easy to use and adaptable for all moulding applications. This material is suitable for decorative cast objects, mould replication, and wall panels. It’s the ultimate chameleon material that can replicate virtually any surface, colour, or texture. It is safe to use and contains no harmful chemicals.

Fortnums x TCDT Employment Programme | Fortnum & Mason

London, various dates in August 2023

Run in collaboration with Fortnum & Mason, each of the three ‘Fortnums x TCDT Employment Programme’ workshops gave students the opportunity to meet with at least two different departments at the iconic London department store, to learn about their role and growth in the business, what they love doing and some of the challenges. Students heard from team members working in Human Resources, Visual Merchandising, Buying, Finance, Retail, Merchandising and History and were offered career advice should they wish to grow their career in the visited departments.

Hat Making | Lock & Co. Hatters

London, Monday 31st July – Friday 4th August 2023

During this 5-day work experience, students were given the opportunity to spend time at the oldest hat shop in the world, the oldest shop in London and one of the oldest family-owned businesses still in existence! They were given an insight into the running of a creative retail business, learning from the various departments across the business, including Marketing & PR, Website, Finance, HR, Millinery and Buying.

Architecture | Allford Hall Monaghan Morris

London, Monday 17th July to Friday 21st July 2023

One student was given the opportunity to spend a week with one of the most prestigious Architectural firms in the U.K.

Architecture | Allies & Morrison

London, Monday 10th July to Friday 14th July 2023

One student was given the opportunity to spend a week at the London office of this renown Architect firm.

Allies and Morrison are architects and urbanists who strive to design beautiful buildings that have long life and can adapt over the generations. AAM also shapes enduring places whether new pieces of city or settlements at any scale. All projects are concerned with the crafting of every detail and an appreciation for the uniqueness of each context.

Jewellery Making | Ravn School of Arts and Crafts

London, Monday 3rd July to Thursday 6th July 2023

During this workshop, one student was given the opportunity to work with the highly skilled Goldsmiths’ Company Fellow Paul Ravn, and gain an insight into how a professional jewellery studio works.

 


Architecture | HKS Architects

London, Monday 3rd July to Friday 7th July 2023

One student was given the opportunity to spend a week at the London office of this renown architecture firm.

HKS is an international design firm of more than 1,400 architects, interior designers, urban designers, scientists, artists, anthropologists and more.

Bookbinding | Shepherds Bindery

London, Monday 12th June to Friday 16th June 2023

One lucky student was given the opportunity to spend a week learning the ancient craft of bookbinding with the team at Shepherds bindery in London.

Shepherds is one of the oldest bookbinding companies in England specialising in fine binding, restoration and the conservation of books and manuscripts.

Contemporary Painting Conservation | Julia Nagle Conservation Studios

London, Friday 14th April 2023

Students spent a day with expert conservators at Julia Nagle Studios learning about the world of Conservation of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Julia Nagle Conservation provides specialist knowledge of twentieth century and contemporary art, conserving and restoring paintings from Bacon to Banksy. We bring museum style conservation services to private collectors, insurers, commercial galleries and public institutions worldwide, and are the official conservators for Frieze Masters and Frieze London Art Fairs.
