In Summer 2018, silversmith Rod Smart brings his skills to The Goldsmith’s Centre and invites you to join him in learning and experimenting with a range of techniques to create your own unique relief pieces on metal.
Chasing and repoussé are metalworking techniques in which a malleable metal like copper is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief.
This five day course will introduce you to techniques using a range of tools in order to achieve a whole spectrum of different effects on copper. With practical tuition and guidance from Rod, you will have an opportunity to explore and develop these into a piece you will bring home with you.
