Venue: Building Crafts College, London
Dates: This workshop ran from Monday 26th July 2021 until Friday 30th July 2021.
Carving in stone is a craft that relates to architecture, sculpture, 3D design and conservation of historic buildings. Students will begin by learning how to use traditional stone-carving tools to carve their own small piece in soft stone. Exploring some of the architectural principles of building with stone, we will then build on these techniques to carve and assemble a small structure as a group. A great opportunity to learn not only a new skill but about its historic and architectural context.
During this workshop, you will first learn how to use tools to carve a basic three-dimensional form and then develop your skills to carve your own lettering design.
The course will be led by Creative Dimension Trust tutor Nancy Peskett, who has a background in architecture and historic stone masonry.
This workshop will run daily from 9:30am and finish at approximately 4:30pm.
