Spring 2022: Mixing Colour

Venue: Online

Dates: This workshop ran on Saturdays for three weeks from Saturday 26th February 2022 until Saturday 13th  March 2022.

Workshop Information

Course Outline

Over three sessions we will explore different ways of mixing paint to achieve the colours that you want.

We will work in watercolour, but the methods you will learn can be used for mixing acrylic and oil paints as well. You will learn why some of your paint mixtures produce ‘fresh’ colours and some produce ‘muddy’ colours. You will experiment with colour matching.  As well as mixing colour, we will discuss the sheen and texture of paint and how it affects the appearance of colour, as well as the way colours interact with one another optically to create an illusion of colour. By the end of the course, you should feel more confident about mixing and adjusting paint colours.  You will have learnt some ways to match a new mix to a previous colour and you will have made a set of sample boards to use for reference in the future.

This workshop will be run by the highly experienced Creative Dimension Trust tutor Sarah Hocombe. Sarah is a fresco painter and illustrator, with a special interest in silhouettes. Her illustration work has featured on products for well-known brands. Sarah is an experienced Creative Dimension Trust Tutor, and was a Visiting Lecturer at UAL for many years.
