    My Creative Career

    The Creative Dimension Trust charity launches My Creative Career.

    My Creative Career is a series of Q&A’s with leading makers and designers. Fashion designer Roksanda Ilincic, perfumer Lyn Harris and spatial designer Robert Storey, amongst others, spend time answering questions posed by students and alumni of TCDT. Our creative guests will share what they have learnt along their own personal route to success with young people wanting to forge a creative career.

     

    My Creative Career will help to inspire 14 – 19-year olds and to illustrate that creativity and working in 3-Dimension can lead to successful and fulfilling careers. In a simple and accessible format, each creative has recorded themselves at home or in their studio sharing motivational stories and valuable wisdom. The first four videos will initially be released every two weeks with more following every month thereafter.

     

    My Creative Career launches on Instagram TV on Wednesday 17th June with the Q&A from Roksanda Ilincic.

     

    The full My Creative Career series will also be available on our YouTube channel from Saturday 20th June.

    2019 Creative Dimension Trust Annual Award for Outstanding Achievement

    Jay Patel’s journey with The Creative Dimension Trust began in 2016 when his A-level tutor encouraged him to apply for an upcoming stone working workshop. Jay saw this as an exciting new opportunity and happily accepted the offer. Since then, Jay has attended many more courses, including etching and sign writing and volunteered as an assistant tutor at the ‘From Dream to Product’ workshop. Jay has proved to be a tremendous ambassador for The Creative Dimension Trust and is a valued member of The Trust community. It is Jay’s dedication to and enthusiasm for The Trust that saw him awarded the first Creative Dimension Trust Annual Award for Outstanding Achievement at the 2019 Collaboration event held at Bonhams Auction House in Mayfair, London.

    Accepting the award, Jay thanked Penny Bendall, founder and CEO of The Creative Dimension Trust, saying that without her his journey into an architecture career might never have happened. After being invited to help The Trust with an exhibition at The Goldsmiths’ Centre, Jay met Steve Kennedy from Grimshaw Architects who offered to show him around their offices. Speaking of his “moment of destiny”, Jay says that the opportunity to do work experience with Grimshaw was life changing and that he was able to develop skills that he has since transferred to his university work. Jay also spoke highly of an internship that he was offered at Allies and Morrison, describing the experience as “…the happiest [five] weeks of my life”. 

    “This is when I realised [that] this is the dream. I am not actually going to do work, I’m going to do something fun, something I want to do for the rest of my life”.

    Jay is currently in his final year studying architecture at Westminster University.

    The Creative Dimension Trust Annual Award for Outstanding Achievement is an annual award given to a student in recognition of their excellent contribution to workshops and/or work experience opportunities during their time with The Trust.

    2019 Collaboration Unveiling: ‘Supernature’

    On the 18th of November 2019, The Creative Dimension Trust unveiled their 2019 Collaboration, Supernature – a puppet fashion show, during an exciting event at Bonhams Auction House in Mayfair, London.

     

    Introducing the evening, founder and CEO of The Trust, Penny Bendall, said that the collaboration ‘…celebrates what The Creative Dimension Trust is all about’. Designed and installed by trustee Simon Costin, the colourful and engaging puppet fashion show was the result of the brilliant effort of students participating in a range of workshops throughout the year. Students worked with expert tutors, from a variety of disciplines, including;

      • Flameworking at the National Glass Centre
      • Table Top Puppet Making with Sian Kidd
      • Sign Writing with Adam Williamson
      • From Dream to Product with Zone Creations
      • Fashion in Miniature with Jose Hendo and;
      • Trompe L’Oeil with Sarah Hocombe

     

    Director of the Royal Collection Trust, Tim Knox, spoke of the incredible work that the Trust does for young people, highlighting that the opportunities offered ‘…are not just in the creative and cultural industries…they are also relate to architecture, engineering and surgery’. Mr Knox further praised the ‘…irresistible combination, [of] energy and enthusiasm from the students and the generosity and imagination of the tutors and sponsors’ saying that ‘…it’s quite inspiring and the future of The Creative Dimensions Trust is really bright’.

     

    “The amazing thing is that, to date, over 400 students have…really benefited from their time [participating in workshops]. From restoring benches for investitures at Buckingham Palace to reguilding that famous shop front at Fortnum & Mason, to woodworking in the new Windsor Castle workshops, students have put the facilities at the National Glass Centre to full use, they have restored the weather vane at that great treasure house Burghley House in Lincolnshire and they have designed a triptych to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.”

  • Southbank Centre: Creative Careers Day

    Southbank Centre: Creative Careers Day

    On Saturday 18th January 2020, Creative Dimension Trust alumnus, and winner of the 2019 Annual Achievement Award, Jay Patel, was invited to speak to young people at the Southbank Centre Creative Careers Day.


    During an afternoon of panel discussions, career advice and workshops, students were given the opportunity to discover routes into creative jobs that they might never have known existed. Joining panellists from Frieze Magazine, Hannah Barry Gallery, Bold Tendencies and 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning, Jay spoke about the positive work that the Creative Dimension Trust does for young people with an interest in persuing a career in the creative industry and discussed how his experience participating in workshops and work experience programmes offered by the Trust have helped to forge his own career aspirations.

  • Student gains experience working at State Banquet for Buckingham Palace

    One of our past students, Ilia Chakarov, was recently given the fantastic opportunity to work at the State Banquet that took place at Buckingham Palace in June 2019. Ilia talks below about his experience:

    Having worked and helped out at the Silver Pantry in Buckingham Palace has taught me many new things which I can benefit from regarding my future projects, things like correctly preserving and maintaining a proper polish on precious metals or learning how to correctly organise tableware for an event. Probably the most important skill that I have developed from my time at Buckingham Palace would have to be learning to work in a team whilst under immense time pressure, as there were very strict timings that needed to be completed everyday. Also I learnt many new terms and their specific uses corresponding to the tableware and applying them to use during this unique experience.   

    Having shadowed someone my own age I felt more relaxed and could work to my fullest potential, as she and all the staff of the Silver Pantry were very friendly, helpful and extremely enjoyable to work alongside with.

    I would like to thank Mr Stephen Murray for allowing me to experience this opportunity and for teaching me how to correctly handle and preserve precious metal tableware, which I find to this day very enjoyable and incredibly useful.

    I would also like to thank The Creative Dimensions Trust and personally Penny Bendall for giving me the chance to work in such an amazing place.
