Spring 2023: Bookbinding – The Art of the Book

Shepherds, London, SW1V 1HU, This workshop ran for one day on Sunday 12th March 2023.
In this unique one day course, students learned the basics of the ancient craft, bookbinding. Students were given the opportunity to develop skills that have been employed in making books for hundreds of years, using materials from a beautiful selection of book cloth and decorative papers to create their own bespoke cover for a book.

Spring 2023: Stained Glass

National Glass Centre, Sunderland, This workshop ran for three days from Tuesday 21st February 2023 until Thursday 23rd February 2023.
During this exciting new workshop, led by TCDT tutor Gill McGinley, students learned skills including, how to design a leaded panel, cutting glass pieces to a pattern and leading and soldering cut glass and joints.

Spring 2023: Introduction To Architecture with Allies & Morrison

Allies & Morrison Architects, This workshop ran for half a day on Friday 17th February 2023.
During this half day workshop with Allies and Morrison, students were introduced to the architectural industry before finishing the afternoon with a model making session.

Spring 2023: Hand Painted Illustration

Online, This workshop ran for three days from Tuesday 14th February 2023 until Thursday 16th  February 2023.
In this three day workshop students painted either a single plant, or a group of botanicals, in three different styles. They approached their illustrations as if they had been commissioned to appear on packaging for products produced by three different brands.

Spring 2023: Perfumery

Floris, London, SW1Y, This workshop ran for three days from Tuesday 14th February 2023 until Thursday 16th February 2023.
Floris is a London-based perfumery house that has been in operation since 1730 and continues to be run by descendants of the founders. Royalty, historical figures and celebrities have long been customers of Floris, whose famed clientele includes Florence Nightengale, Winston Churchill, explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and actress Marilyn Monroe.

Spring 2023: Creative Couture Beading

Hand & Lock, London, W1W 8TE, This workshop ran for two days from Monday 13th February 2023 until Tuesday 14th  February 2023.
Combining traditional and cutting edge couture hand embroidery techniques, this mini Couture course gave students a truly unique experience of a number of stitching processes. The techniques taught in this class are used regularly in London, Paris and New York couture houses and are often seen on the catwalk. From contemporary Goldwork to Silk Shading, this course provided expert tuition in 2D and 3D stitching.

Autumn 2022: ENAMELLING AND FLOWER MAKING WITH METAL

The Goldsmiths’ Centre, London, This workshop ran on Saturdays for five weeks from Saturday 12th November 2022 until Saturday 10th  December 2022.
During this workshop, students were taught jewellery making techniques including shaping, bending, hammering, sawing, soldering, texturing and enamelling using silver, copper and brass.

Autumn 2022: Embroidery

Online, This workshop ran on Saturdays for five weeks from Saturday 5th November 2022 until Saturday 3rd December 2022.
During this online workshop, students designed and created an embroidery on a denim piece of clothing from their wardrobe.

Autumn 2022: Calligraphy for Beginners

Bow Road Studios, London E3, This workshop ran on Saturdays for three weeks from Saturday 19th November 2022 until Saturday 3rd December 2022.
In this workshop, students learned the fundamental techniques needed to write cursive Italic script.

Autumn 2022: Watercolours

Online, This workshop ran on Saturdays for three weeks from Saturday 5th November 2022 until Saturday 19th November 2022.
In this three day course students were introduced to watercolour materials and explored traditional techniques (including working wet-in-wet).
