2021: Casting & Gilding

During this workshop students learned how to make a small plaster cast from a mould before learning the delicate skill of gilding using real gold leaf.

2021: Jewellery Making

During this workshop, students learned traditional techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering and annealing to complete a personal piece of jewellery to take home.

2021: Ceramic Tile Making

This Workshop ran 17 August 2021 – 19 August 2021

During this three-day course students designed and decorated their own set of bespoke wall tiles. After learning traditional practices such as tubelining, students worked collaboratively to create a tile panel to be included in a window display at Fortnum & Mason.

2021: PAINTING WITH SPECIALIST BRUSHES – Online

This Workshop ran 16 August 2021 – 20 August 2021

In this course, students experimented with a different brush each day, eventually using all of the brushes and learned techniques to paint an image in their last session.

2021: Marbling

This Workshop ran 16 August 2021 – 20 August 2021

In this fast-paced and energetic course, students were guided through a variety of different marbling techniques, gradually building up their technical skill. They learned Japanese suminagashi and traditional combed patterns, as well as expressive swirls and modern wave techniques.

2021: Sign Writing on Skateboards

This Workshop ran 16 August 2021 – 20 August 2021

Students learned how to paint a box or skateboard using traditional, timeless brushwork and pinstriping techniques.

2021: Gilding on Leather – Online

This Workshop ran 9 August 2021 – 13 August 2021

In this workshop, students learned about the history of gilding on leather – a skill which has existed since the early centuries A.D.

2021: ENAMELLING AND FLOWER MAKING WITH METAL

This Workshop ran 9 August 2021 – 13 August 2021

For this workshop students were taught techniques including shaping, bending, hammering, sawing, soldering, texturing and enamelling. Materials used included silver, copper and brass.

2021: Backdrop for Window Display

This Workshop ran 2 August 2021 – 6 August 2021

In this workshop, students worked together to create a dramatic sky, which will be used as the backdrop for a window display at a famous store in Piccadilly, London. They learned how to create sky effects in acrylic, and discussed the practicalities of making work for temporary installation in a retail setting.
