Autumn 2024: GILDING WORKSHOP WITH THE ROYAL COLLECTION TRUST

This Workshop ran on 29 October 2024

Students spent a morning at the Royal Collection Trust Gilding Workshop and were given an introduction to laying gold leaf. They were taken on a tour of the venue visiting the Furniture, Metals and Ceramics workshops before spending a couple of hours learning how to lay 23.5ct gold leaf in the Gilding workshop.

Autumn 2024: New Pattern Making / Classic Tailoring

This Workshop ran 28 October 2024 – 1 November 2024

Have you ever wondered what goes into the cutting and making of high fashion garments? This course guided students through the techniques used by designers to make inspiring 3D details in cloth. Panels, layers, pockets, collars and cuffs, design detailing creates the architecture of a garment!

Autumn 2024: Tassel Making – Passementerie

This Workshop ran 28 October 2024 – 30 October 2024

This course involved various techniques in making tassels and tiebacks and allowed students who completed the summer course to revise and extend their techniques.

Autumn 2024: Enamelling

This Workshop ran 28 October 2024 – 1 November 2024

During this workshop, students were taught techniques including shaping, bending, hammering, sawing, soldering, texturing and enamelling. Materials used included silver, copper and brass.

Autumn 2024: Craft Your Own Carry Case

This Workshop ran 14 September 2024 – 19 October 2024

In this workshop, students designed and constructed their own wooden carry case which can be used as a tool box, a crafting case, or even as a holdall for toiletries!

Summer 2024: Leather Tassel Making

This Workshop ran on 21 August 2024

During this half day workshop, at the world renown Bill Amberg Studios, students were introduced to the art of leather working and make leather tassels!

Summer 2024: Perfumery

This Workshop ran on 20 August 2024

During this session, students had the opportunity to smell and enjoy creating one fragrance formula to take away at the end of the day, in a 50ml Floris bottle.

Summer 2024: Marbling

This Workshop ran 20 August 2024 – 23 August 2024

During this workshop, students learned a variety of different marbling techniques – including Suminagashi ink marbling, Turkish Ebru and European marbling.

Summer 2024: Architectural Drawing – Facades and Ornamentation

This Workshop ran 19 August 2024 – 23 August 2024

In this workshop, students learned to draw architectural elements including decorative corbels, horseshoes arches and ionic capitals. They used traditional tools including compass and straight edge, and were taught technical drawings stage by stage.

Summer 2024: Hand Embroidery Creative Colour and Thread Painting

This Workshop ran 12 August 2024 – 15 August 2024

This workshop taught students the basics of hand embroidery, focusing on thread painting and colour theory. Students completed a small thread painting and also created a 3D embroidered petal that will be added to the Tassel project.
