Summer 2024: Tassel Making & Trimmings

Wendy Cushing Passementerie Workshop, Muswell Hill London N10, This workshop ran for four days on Wednesday 31st July, Thursday 1st August, Wednesday 7th August and Thursday 8th August 2024.
During this course, students learned all aspects of the making of fringes, braids, tassels and tie-backs for soft furnishings and interior decoration.

Summer 2024: Learning Patisserie Skills with Fortnum & Mason

Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly, London, This workshop ran for one day on Tuesday 6th August 2024.
During this one day workshop, students were taught Patisserie skills by an expert Fortnum & Mason Patisserie chef.

Spring 2024: Engineering Drawing

Heyne Tillett Steel, London, N1, This workshop ran for one day on Wednesday 10th April 2024.
During this brand new, one-day Engineering Drawing workshop, students were introduced to engineering drawing by hand and also had the opportunity to learn to draw with Computer-aided design (CAD).

Spring 2024: Jewellery Making

The Goldsmiths’ Centre, London, This workshop ran on Saturdays for five weeks from Saturday 24th February 2024 until Saturday 23rd  March 2024.

Spring 2024: Bookbinding – The Art of the Book

Shepherds, London, SW1V 1HU, This workshop ran for one day on Sunday 17th March 2024.
In this unique one day course, students learned the basics of the ancient craft, bookbinding. Students were given the opportunity to develop skills that have been employed in making books for hundreds of years, using materials from a beautiful selection of book cloth and decorative papers to create their own bespoke cover for a book.

Spring 2024: Making a Child’s Chair

Frogmore Conservation Workshops, Windsor Castle, This workshop ran for five days from Monday 12th February 2024 until Friday 16th February 2024.
During this workshop, students learned about frame construction methods, staining and surface finishes before creating their own small, traditionally upholstered oak chair. Students were also introduced to the wonders of gilding and were able to add a series of gilded patrea in 22ct gold leaf to their chairs.

Spring 2024: Drawing

The Leathersellers Hall, London, EC3A, This workshop ran for five days from Monday 12th February 2024 until Friday 16th February 2024.
A drawing skills workshop, using some of the wonderful objects from the Leathersellers’ Company Archive and Leathersellers’ Hall as inspiration. Students made detailed shaded drawings, using pencil and stump as well as charcoal pencil and liquid charcoal, working at either A5 or A4 scale.
