Summer 2023: Fused Glass

This Workshop ran 7 August 2023 – 9 August 2023

On this 3-day course, students learned about the exciting possibilities of glass fusing. Students were introduced to a number of glass working techniques and explored the colour changing properties of Dichroic Glass, learning how the colours are transmitted and change depending on the light source.

Summer 2023: Marionette Puppet Making

This Workshop ran 7 August 2023 – 9 August 2023

From the comfort of their own home, students learned the art of marionette puppet making from puppeteer and experienced Creative Dimension Trust tutor, Sian Kidd. Taking inspiration from vintage Sci-fi and deep space science, they worked together to create unique puppet characters from their imaginations!

Summer 2023: Whatnot Puppet Making

This Workshop ran 1 August 2023 – 3 August 2023

During this new three-day workshop, students learned how to design and make a ‘whatnot’ puppet complete with a character voice and full puppet personality. Led by puppet designer, maker and performer Hugh Purves, students also learned how to operate their puppet on camera and on stage, learning a little about cameras and film making in general.

Summer 2023: Fortnums x TCDT Employment Programme: History, Retail & Merchandising

This Workshop ran on 1 August 2023

In the first of a series of employment programme workshops, run in collaboration with Fortnum & Mason, students explored Fortnum & Mason’s History and Archives with Dr. Tanner and Louise Woof. They then discovered what it is like to work within the store’s Retail and Merchandising departments.

Each Fortnums x TCDT Employment Programme workshop allows students to meet with at least two different departments to learn about their role and growth in the business, what they love doing and some of the challenges. Speakers will also offer career advice should the students wish to grow their career in the visited departments.

Summer 2023: Jewellery Making

This Workshop ran 31 July 2023 – 4 August 2023

Working with precious metal is an exciting process, and in this course, students had the opportunity to learn about the craft of silver jewellery making with jeweller Paul Ravn. Learning traditional techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering and annealing, students were able to build their skills and complete a personal piece of jewellery to take home.

SUMMER 2023: ARCHITECTURAL MODEL MAKING

This Workshop ran 24 July 2023 – 11 August 2023

Three lucky students had the opportunity to learn the art of Architectural modelling in an exciting and creative environment, with uninterrupted guidance from one of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris’ senior in-house model makers.

Summer 2023: Hat Making

This Workshop ran 24 July 2023 – 28 July 2023

During this workshop, students learned some of the skills and processes of making and repairing a hat. They spent time with a Master Hatter from Lock & Co., the oldest hat shop in the world and the oldest shop in London, learning how to steam, brush, polish and repair hats.

Spring 2023: Architectural Drawing

This Workshop ran on 5 April 2023

In this half-day workshop, students were given an introduction to architectural drawing techniques and technical skills used by AHMM architects including use of perspective, plans and elevations. Students were able to experiment with different kinds of architectural drawing including sketching the London cityscape from the AHMM rooftop.

Spring 2023: The Hidden Geometry Of British Native Flowers

This Workshop ran 1 April 2023 – 2 April 2023

A drawing workshop exploring our relationship with Nature, The cosmos and Human Creativity.

Using the traditional methods of compass and ruler, students explored Sacred Patterns of The Plant Kingdom covering topics on Mycelium, Seeds and Flowers.

Tutor Stephanie drew upon the growth pattern of miraculous species by leading students through an array of British Native Flowers and their geometric formations interconnecting them to the world of a local forest.
