Spring 2023: Bookbinding – The Art of the Book

This Workshop ran on 12 March 2023

In this unique one day course, students learned the basics of the ancient craft, bookbinding. Students were given the opportunity to develop skills that have been employed in making books for hundreds of years, using materials from a beautiful selection of book cloth and decorative papers to create their own bespoke cover for a book.

Spring 2023: Design for Mural Decoration

This Workshop ran 4 March 2023 – 18 March 2023

During this workshop, students learned about the commissioning process for a mural in a public building and how to work to a theme chosen by the client.

Spring 2023: Jewellery Making

This Workshop ran 25 February 2023 – 25 March 2023

During this workshop, students learned traditional techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering and annealing to complete a personal piece of jewellery to take home.

Spring 2023: Stained Glass

This Workshop ran 21 February 2023 – 23 February 2023

During this exciting new workshop, led by TCDT tutor Gill McGinley, students learned skills including, how to design a leaded panel, cutting glass pieces to a pattern and leading and soldering cut glass and joints.

Spring 2023: Hand Painted Illustration

This Workshop ran 14 February 2023 – 16 February 2023

In this three day workshop students painted either a single plant, or a group of botanicals, in three different styles. They approached their illustrations as if they had been commissioned to appear on packaging for products produced by three different brands.

Spring 2023: Perfumery

This Workshop ran 14 February 2023 – 16 February 2023

Floris is a London-based perfumery house that has been in operation since 1730 and continues to be run by descendants of the founders. Royalty, historical figures and celebrities have long been customers of Floris, whose famed clientele includes Florence Nightengale, Winston Churchill, explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and actress Marilyn Monroe.

Spring 2023: Creative Couture Beading

This Workshop ran 13 February 2023 – 14 February 2023

Combining traditional and cutting edge couture hand embroidery techniques, this mini Couture course gave students a truly unique experience of a number of stitching processes. The techniques taught in this class are used regularly in London, Paris and New York couture houses and are often seen on the catwalk. From contemporary Goldwork to Silk Shading, this course provided expert tuition in 2D and 3D stitching.

Autumn 2022: Calligraphy for Beginners

This Workshop ran 19 November 2022 – 3 December 2022

In this workshop, students learned the fundamental techniques needed to write cursive Italic script.

Autumn 2022: ENAMELLING AND FLOWER MAKING WITH METAL

This Workshop ran 12 November 2022 – 10 December 2022

During this workshop, students were taught jewellery making techniques including shaping, bending, hammering, sawing, soldering, texturing and enamelling using silver, copper and brass.
