Autumn 2022: Embroidery

During this online workshop, students designed and created an embroidery on a denim piece of clothing from their wardrobe.

Autumn 2022: Watercolours

This Workshop ran 5 November 2022 – 19 November 2022

In this three day course students were introduced to watercolour materials and explored traditional techniques (including working wet-in-wet).

Autumn 2022: Architectural Drawing

This Workshop ran on 27 October 2022

In this new one-day workshop, students were given an introduction to architectural drawing techniques and technical skills used by AHMM architects including use of perspective, plans and elevations. Students were able to experiment with different kinds of architectural drawing including sketching the London cityscape from the AHMM rooftop.

Autumn 2022: Hand & Lock – Goldwork Embroidery

This Workshop ran 25 October 2022 – 26 October 2022

Goldwork is the art of embroidery using metal threads. Historically associated with ceremonial and military uniform the technique is now also popular in customisation, couture and interior design. Over the course of one intense weekend, students learned fundamentals such as setting up a full-size frame, transferring their designs, soft string padding, felt padding before learning the more complex elements such as pearl purl and cutwork.

Autumn 2022: Stone Carving

This Workshop ran 1 October 2022 – 15 October 2022

Led by Creative Dimension Trust tutor Nancy Peskett, students learned how to use traditional stone-carving tools to carve their own small piece in soft stone. Exploring some of the architectural principles of building with stone, students had the opportunity to learn not only a new skill but about its historic and architectural context too.

Autumn 2022: Wood Turning

This Workshop ran 1 October 2022 – 15 October 2022

Working with Creative Dimension Trust tutor Patrick Lear, students developed skills in the ancient craft of woodturning.

Autumn 2022: Painting with Specialist Brushes

This Workshop ran 10 September 2022 – 8 October 2022

In this online workshop, students learned different techniques that can be used for lots of different craft applications, as well as fine art painting and illustration. Each week, students experimented with a different brush and painted using glaze medium to create layered effects.

Summer 2022: Geometry of Structure

This Workshop ran 22 August 2022 – 26 August 2022

Over a packed 5 days, using a variety of materials, students made an array of 3-dimensional static and kinetic structures. Including spherical models and a full-size bamboo tetrahedron and geodesic dome.

Summer 2022: Sign Writing on Skateboards

This Workshop ran 16 August 2022 – 19 August 2022

In this workshop, students learned how to paint a box or skateboard using traditional, timeless brushwork and pinstriping techniques. Practicing with a mahl stick (a stick with a soft leather or padded head used by painters) and enamel paints, students acquired some new design, shading and lining talents while mastering some serious brushwork skills.

Summer 2022: Jewellery Making

This Workshop ran 15 August 2022 – 19 August 2022

During this workshop, students learned traditional techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering and annealing to complete a personal piece of jewellery to take home.
